“The 61st India Study Meeting” was held on the topic of “Current and Prospective Situation of India-Japan Relations”.
At Japan-India summit meeting in Phnom Penh in November, the development of the economic relations between the two countries was confirmed. The rare earth exports to Japan and Yen loan for the subway construction project are decided and consultation about introduction of Japan’s Shinkansen system and civil nuclear cooperation seems underway.
Upon opening, Mr.Kenichi Watanabe, Chairman of FEC Japan-India Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Senior Advisor to the Board, Nomura Holdings, Inc. said in his greeting remark that “I regretted the postponement of the visit to Japan of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh because of the political situation in Japan. However, I recognize the progress of the bilateral cooperation on infrastructure development in India, and I hope it will be further enhanced.”
H. E. Ms.Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Ambassador of India spoke on diplomatic relations, economic relations, and foreign capital control. Various questions and answers were followed including the bureaucracy, the investment of Chinese companies and the investment incentives.
