“The 112thEuropean Study Meeting” was held on the theme of “Prospects for EU”. Concern over the Euro was settled temporarily, but prospects for fiscal consolidation in Greece are still severe. It should be noted that the true value of the effort of EU towards financial integration of the euro zone is being questioned.
Upon opening, Mr. Hiromichi Fujita, Chairman of FEC Japan-Europe Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Executive Advisor and Former Chairman of Toppan Printing Co., Ltd said in his greeting remark that “Germany and Japan celebrated the 150th anniversary of exchanges last year. The pro-Japanese Ambassador has devoted himself to the development of bilateral relations in the time of this milestone. Today, I would like to hear about outlook of the EU and the relationship between the two countries.”
H. E. Dr. Volker Stanzel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany gave a lecture to focus on the background of the euro crisis, the situation of each EU country, and the financial integration measures.
After the lecture, We made a lively exchange of ideas and questions on topics including the French presidential election, Greek debt problem and Japanese-German relations.
