“The 61st ASEAN Study Meeting” was held on the topic of “Thailand-Japan Economic Relations: Partnership for the Future”.

Thailand with over $5000 per capita GDP has grown to a middle income country and receives a largest number of Japanese companies in the Southeast Asian region. Japan is Thailand’s traditionally largest trading and Investment partner. Mr. Hiroshi Tanaka, Vice Chairman of FEC Japan-ASEAN Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee,Executive Corporate Advisor of KUREHA Corporation. said in his greeting remark that “FEC delegation visited Thailand three times in the past. After returning to Tokyo, We reported the result of the mission including chaallenges that face Thailand and requests we made. Thailand seems to need preventive measures for the recurrence of a Great Flood. Bangkok was polled as a most popular city in Asia for world travellors, therefore we expect further growth of tourism.”

H. E. Mr. Thanatip Upatising, Ambassador of Kingdom of Thailand, talked about the Prime　Ministers meetings, cooperation in ASEAN, and economic development policy. After the lecture, we enjoyed a lively exchange of views about exchange rates issue, Dawai Special Economic Zone project and medical cooperation and so on.
