FEC invited Dr. Hans Carl Freiherr von Werthern, Ambassador of Germany, to an Executive Luncheon Meeting at the Hotel Okura Tokyo on June 8. The meeting was held on the theme of “Current situation and future prospects of Germany-Japan relationship”. Mr. Yasuo Saito, Advisor of FEC Japan-Europe Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Director of Ajinomoto Co., Inc., Former Ambassador to France, made a welcome remark and said, “I think that the future of Europe depends heavily on Germany and France. I sincerely hope that Germany will take strong leadership not only in Europe but also in the world and contribute to peace and stability. I am looking forward to hearing interesting talks from Ambassador Werthern.” Ambassador Werthern made a speech on differences between Japan and Germany, low birthrate, aging society, terrorism problems, etc. After the speech, there were active Q&As on such topics as German soft power and extreme right wing problem in Germany.
