FEC invited H. E. Mr. Gonzalo De Benito Secades, Ambassador of Spain, to an Executive Luncheon Meeting at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo on September 29. The meeting was held on the theme of “Current status of Spain and future prospects of Spain-Japan relationship”. Mr. Hiromichi Fujita, Chairman of FEC Japan-Europe Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Executive Advisor and Former Chairman of Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. said in his welcome speech, ” Spain and Japan have developed good bilateral ties, having a history of 460 years of exchange. Spanish President Mr. Rajoy visited Japan in October 2013. In the joint Statement, Prime Minister Abe and PresidentRajoy decided to use the next five years up to 2018, when both countries will celebrate together the 150^th anniversary of the Japan-Spain diplomatic relation, to expand and deepen their bilateral relationship.” After a video presentation on the current Spain, Ambassador De Benito made a speech, focusing on various topics including the economic and political situation of Spain, participation in infrastructure projects and Spain-Japan relations. After his speech there were active Q&As, such topics as the impact of the Russian economic sanctions on the Spanish economy, the refugee issues and the result of Catalonia’s parliamentary election.
